ADD GAME RECORD
===============
Select this option when you wish to add a new Game Record to the
database. If you have more than one Golfer in the database you will
first be required to select the Golfer from a "PickList" by moving the
Arrow Keys (UpArrow and DownArrow) causing the bar to HiLight the
correct Golfer, then you press <Enter> to select that Golfer. Next,
if you have more than one Course Record in the database, you will be
asked to select a Course from the "PickList" using the same method
that you used when selecting the Golfer. If you only have one Golfer
and Course in the database, you will go directly to the screen where
all the information needed by GolfClub will be entered. You really
should bring your score card home with you to be assured of entering
the requested information correctly.
(DATE)
------
The 1st prompt will ask you for the date the game was played. If
you are entering the information on the same day that the game was
played, just press <Enter> and the current date will be entered for
you. If you need to enter a different date, you must enter the date
using the date format you selected when setting up GolfClub for the
1st time. The two formats are "MM-DD-YYYY" or "DD-MM-YYYY" with "MM"
being the month, "DD" being the day and "YYYY" being the year. If
the month is from Jan. - Sep (01 - 09) then you must enter a zero "0"
as the first digit. If the day is from the 1st - 9th (01 - 09) then
you must also enter a zero "0" as the first digit here also. Entering
a Month larger than 12 or a Day larger than 31 will not be accepted.
If you attempt to enter a Month or Day smaller than 10 in the first
space, it will automatically place a zero "0" there and jump to the
second space. The Year must be entered using all four digits as in
1994.
(PARTNERS)
----------
The next prompt will ask you for the name(s) of your playing
partners for the game being entered. If you played alone, press
<Enter> without typing anything here and this prompt will be skipped.
When entering the names here, remember that this field is limited to
30 spaces so it might be best if you only enter the first names when
entering more than 2 or 3 playing partners.
(HOLES PLAYED)
--------------
Here you enter the number of holes you played for this game. Only 2
figures will be accepted here; either 9 or 18. If you enter 9 then you
will be asked if you played the front side (Holes 1-9) or the back side
(holes 10-18). If the game is a 9-hole game, GolfClub will select the
score box for the front 9 or the back 9 depending on the side you
indicated. If you entered 18, then GolfClub will display the scorebox
for the entire 18 holes of the Course selected earlier.
(SCORES)
--------
The score box will show the Hole # and the Par for each hole on the
course. When entering scores here, you MUST NOT use the Arrow Keys
(LeftArrow & RightArrow) to skip from box to box. Simply enter the
score for the hole then press the <Enter> Key to go to the next hole.
If you are a registered user of GolfClub AND you have an established
Handicap Index AND you have indicated that you want to use the
"Equitable Stroke Control" (ESC) rule, GolfClub will check each score
as you enter it to see that it fits within the range of the ESC rule.
If it's greater than the limit allowed, GolfClub will advise you and
adjust the score accordingly. The maximum score for any hole is 25.
The minimum score for any hole is 1. If you wish to stop before
completing the Game Record, you may press the <F10> Key then press the
<Enter> Key and you will be returned to the Main Menu. The record
will not be saved if you use this means to exit early.
After entering the scores for the first 9 holes, the 9-hole total
score will be posted. If it's under the minimum score allowed by the
U.S.G.A. or over the maximum score allowed by the U.S.G.A. GolfClub will
advise you and adjust the score accordingly. The minimum score allowed
for handicapping purposes is 27. The maximum score allowed depends on
the Golfer's age and sex. GolfClub knows the age and sex of each Golfer
along with the U.S.G.A. limits and will make all the necessary adjust-
ments as needed.
(GREENS)
--------
Greens hit in regulation are based on each hole as follows:
Hole Par Strokes to reach Green
-------- ----------------------
Par 3 ........... 1 (Hit from Tee Box)
Par 4 ........... 2 (Hit on 1st or 2rd shot)
Par 5 ........... 3 (Hit on 2nd or 3rd shot)
(TOTAL PUTTS)
-------------
Enter the total number of Putts required to complete the game. This
figure will be used when computing a Golfer's Putting average.
(FAIRWAYS HIT)
--------------
Hitting a fairway in regulation means that your ball stops IN the
Fairway on the FIRST shot off the Tee. Par 3 holes are NOT included
in Fairways hit. If you miss the Green on a par 3 hole and your ball
stops in the Fairway, it's considered a Green missed and NOT a Fairway
hit.
■ Looking at the percent of Fairways hit at the Summary Screen will
indicate how accurate a Golfer is with the Driver.
(SAND SAVES)
------------
Sand Saves Attempted means the number of times you were in a green
side sand trap. Sand traps alongside Fairways (also called "Fairway
bunkers") are NOT to be used when entering the number of sand saves
attempted. If you attempted no sand saves, press <Enter> here without
typing a number and you will be moved to the next prompt.
Sand Saves Made are the number of times you save Par after being in
a green side sand trap. If you do not make Par on the hole where you
were in a green side sand trap, then do not enter anything. You may
skip this prompt by pressing <Enter> without entering a number.
■ Looking at the percent of Sand Saves attempted/made at the Summary
Screen will give a Golfer an indication of how well he/she uses
sand wedges and whether or not this would be a part of his/her game
the Golfer needs to work on.
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
-------------------------
After completing all the above information, you will be asked to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving. Select one
of these options and press the appropriate letter on your keyboard.
Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the database
and will allow it to be called up for review at any time along with
all information recorded being included in the Summary for the Golfer.

ADD GOLFER RECORD
=================
Information entered here is used by GolfClub when doing Handicaps,
minimum and maximum scores, etc. It can be used also for keeping up
with a player's age, address, phone number, etc. At least one (1)
Golfer Record must be saved in the database before a Game Record can
be added.
(FIRST and LAST NAME)
---------------------
Enter the FIRST name of the Golfer and press <Enter> to move to
the prompt for the LAST name. DO NOT enter BOTH the first and last
name at either of these prompts as GolfClub does some sorting based
on the last name and it needs to know how to recognize it as being a
legitimate last name or first name.
(SEX)
-----
GolfClub needs to know the sex of each Golfer so proper handicap
figures can be established. Also, the U.S.G.A. has established
minimum and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age.
You will be required to enter either "M" or "F" at this prompt.
It doesn't matter if you type it lower case or upper case ("m"
or "F"), GolfClub will know the difference and adjust accordingly.
(AGE)
-----
GolfClub needs to know the age of each Golfer so proper handicap
figures can be established. Also, the U.S.G.A. has established
minimum and maximum allowable scores based on both sex and age.
You will be required to enter an age here that is over 4 and
under 100.
(ADDRESS)
---------
Enter here the address (street or P.O. box) of the Golfer. Do not
exceed the field length indicated by the dark spaces or you will be
required to complete the prompt again.
(CITY) (STATE) (ZIP CODE)
-------------------------
Enter here the city where the Golfer resides, the two letter postal
code for the state and the ZIP code.
(HOME PHONE and WORK PHONE)
---------------------------
Enter at these two prompts first the home telephone of the Golfer
then the work or office phone. Either of these numbers could also
be a car phone if desired.
(HANDICAP INDEX)
----------------
If the Golfer already has an established Handicap Index it should
be entered at this prompt. If the Golfer does not have an established
Handicap Index or it is not known, enter a zero "0" and press <Enter>
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
-------------------------
After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
keyboard. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
database and will allow it to be called up when adding a new Game
Record. Mouse users may place the Mouse pointer directly on the
letter inside the "< >" and click the LEFT Mouse button.
~~~
[2/3]
ADD COURSE RECORD
=================
After completing this requirement for a Course, you will not be
required to enter it again. A Course Record is saved in the
database and is available each time a new Game Record is entered
or the Course Record is selected for editing or display. You MUST
have at least one Course Record saved in the database before a Game
Record can be entered.
(COURSE NAME)
-------------
Enter here the name of the Course or Club. This field is limited
to 20 characters so abbreviations may be necessary such as "Riverlawn
CC" rather than "Riverlawn Country Club."
(CITY and STATE)
----------------
Enter here the name of the city/town where the course is located.
Press <Enter> after entering the city and type the standard 2 letter
Postal abbreviation for the state.
(COURSE TYPE)
-------------
If your course is one where you have only 9 holes and DO NOT have
provisions for playing it as an 18-hole course (such as 2 Tee boxes
for each hole) then press "Y" here. If your course is an 18-hole
course (or a 9-hole course with 2 Tee boxes for each hole) press
"N" here.
(COURSE PAR)
------------
You will next be asked to enter the Par for the front 9 (1-9)
then the Par for the back 9 (10-18). After doing this GolfClub
will display the Course Par. If your course is a true 9-hole
course, you must enter the Par figure at the required prompt.
(HOLE PARS)
-----------
Next you will be required to enter the Par value for each hole on
the course. After completing this requirement, GolfClub will check
to be sure the front side Par value and the back side Par value
matches the total of the individual holes just entered. If the
figures do not match, GolfClub will display a message box advising
you which of the sides do not match the Par value indicated at the
top of the screen.
■ GolfClub does not accept Hole Par values of less than 3 or more
than 5. Acceptable Par values are 3, 4, and 5.
(SLOPE and RATING)
------------------
If your course is an approved U.S.G.A. or R.C.G.A. course, it will
have both a "Slope" and "Rating" assigned to it. The Club Pro or
Club Manager should be able to make both of these figures available
to you. Many courses have this information printed on the scorecard.
If you have these figures then enter them at the next 2 prompts.
Always enter the Slope value first then the Rating.
(CLUB PRO and TELEPHONE)
------------------------
The last 2 prompts ask you for the name of the club Pro/Manager and
the telephone number. If this information is not known, press <Enter>
to skip either or both of these prompts.
(SAVE - STARTOVER - QUIT)
-------------------------
After completing all the above information, you will be asked if
you want to <S>ave the record, Start<O>ver or <Q>uit without saving.
Select one of these options and press the appropriate letter on your
keyboard. Pressing "S" here will cause the record to be saved in the
database and allow it to be called up when adding a new Game Record.
The Mouse user can place the Mouse pointer directly on the letter
inside the "< >" and click the LEFT Mouse button.
----------------
Selecting this option will either create or update the file that
contains the Master Lists of all Golfers in the database. These
lists are sorted in both alphabetical order and by Handicap Index.
■ These lists should be updated each time a new Golfer is added, a
new game record is added for an existing Golfer or a Golfers Record
is edited.
EDIT GAME RECORD
----------------
Select the Golfer whose game you wish to edit from the "PickList."
Next select the individual Game Record from the "PickList" using the
Mouse or ArrowKeys (). The Golfers will be sorted alphabetically,
and the games will be sorted by scores from lowest to highest.
A screen will appear showing all scores and other amounts as
originally saved when the game was first recorded. The course name
and the Golfers Course Handicap can not be changed. If these items
need to be changed, you must delete that Record and enter it again.
The first item available for change is the date the game was played.
The blinking cursor will appear in this box. If the date is correct
press <Enter> without making any change to go to the next available
block. When changing the date, be sure to stick with your selected
date format. When a block is changed, the new figures will appear
in bright yellow on a dark background.
You MUST NOT use the Arrow Keys to move the blinking cursor. If
you do not wish to change the item where the cursor is located then
press the <Enter> Key to go to the next item until you reach the item
you wish to change. After you have made the change, continue pressing
the <Enter> Key until you reach the end. You can then press <S> to
save the changes or <Q> to quit without saving the changes. If you're
using a Mouse then place the Mouse pointer on or near the letter (S,Q)
of choice and click the LEFT Mouse button.
■ If you make a mistake and catch it BEFORE leaving the block,
you can use the BackSpace "<───" Key to blank out the incorrect
information.
■ If you wish to change an amount or score in any of the boxes,
you must change the ENTIRE amount/score by typing over ALL the
numbers in that block.
■ When a Game Record is edited and the Score changes from the
original score, GolfClub will automatically recalculate the
Golfer's Handicap Index to reflect the change.
~~~
[4/2]

numbers, age, etc. You should always keep up with a Golfers age
so GolfClub can have the correct information when doing handicaps,
etc.
■ After changing a Golfers record, be sure to use the UPDATE LISTS

[6/1]
HANDICAP INDEX
==============
A formula like the one used by the U.S.G.A. and the R.C.G.A. is
used for the computations and provides matching results. A Golfer
must have a minimum of five (5) Game Records (18-hole games) in the
database before a Handicap Index can be determined. GolfClub checks
the individual Golfer's Game Records and if he/she has at least five
valid (18-hole) Game Records then the Index is calculated.
18-Hole Differentials
Games to be used
~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
5 1 Lowest round
6-7 2 Lowest rounds
8-9 3 Lowest rounds
10-11 4 Lowest rounds
12-13 5 Lowest rounds
14-15 6 Lowest rounds
16-17 7 Lowest rounds
18 8 Lowest rounds
19 9 Lowest rounds
20 10 Lowest rounds
21+ 10 Lowest rounds from LAST 20 rounds played
■ The user will first be asked to select a Golfer Record from the
"PickList" which will be displayed in the upper left corner of
the screen.
■ The Handicap Index determined by GolfClub is not to be used as a
Golfer's "official" Handicap Index when entering Tournaments where
players are flighted based on their Handicap. An "official"
Handicap Index can only be obtained from the U.S.G.A. (through your
local P.G.A. Professional) or the Royal Canadian Golf Association.
Handicap Index's coming from the U.S.G.A. (or local affiliate) may
take weeks to reach you. With GolfClub, a Golfers Handicap Index
can be seen after each Game Record is entered. This allows each
Golfer to know what his/her current Handicap Index is at any time.
~~~
[6/2]
COURSE HANDICAP
===============
A Golfer's Course Handicap is commonly referred to as his/her
"handicap." It's determined using the Golfer's current Handicap
Index and the Slope value of the Course being played. The course
Pro or Club Manager should be able to explain the method used to
determine a Course Handicap when you're playing a course that you've
never played before and don't have the course recorded in the GolfClub
database.
■ A Golfer's Course Handicap will be expressed as a whole number
like 4, 9, 16, etc. while their Handicap Index is most often (but
not always) shown with a decimal as in 3.6 or 11.7, etc.
~~~
[6/3]
QUICK HANDICAP
==============
Use this option to quickly figure a Course Handicap for a Golfer
who is not in the database. This would most often be used when
someone who is not already in the database wants to know his/her
Handicap for the course being played.
1.. Enter the Slope value of the Course (90 - 160).
2.. Indicate whether the Golfer is Male or Female by pressing
<M> for male or <F> for female.
ALL BY RANK
===========
Selecting this option will print a listing with all Golfers
in the database ranked according to their current Handicap Index.
A zero (0) is the best Handicap Index. Any Golfer(s) having a "0"
Handicap Index will be ranked first. In the event 2 or more Golfers
have identical Handicap Index values, they will be shown as "tied"
with the same rank number. The Golfer ranked at the top of a tie
indicates the Golfer was entered into the database before the other
Golfer(s) with the same rank.
This requires at least two (2) Golfer Records to be in the database
and they must have an established Handicap Index. You should also
have your printer turned ON and loaded with an adequate supply of
paper.
A typical Listing looks like the following:
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Rank -- Golfer Index Note
-------------------------------------------------------------------
1 John Doe .7 [ ]________
2 Jane Doe 1.3 [ ]________
3 Sam Spade 8.7 [ ]________
4 Sally Spade 16.2 [ ]________
4 Andy Taylor 16.2 [ ]________
6 Barney Fife 21.4 [ ]________
In this example, two Golfers are tied (4th/5th) with the same Index.
The "Note" area is provided so any special conditions can be indicated.
